Britpart's digital transformation: boosting productivity with DYSS digital cutters

From manual cutting to automated precision: how DYSS helped Britpart expand production and enter new markets

alt text For more than 40 years, Britpart has been a leading global supplier of Land Rover parts and accessories, serving over 1,000 stockists worldwide from its 55-acre headquarters in Shropshire. To maintain its reputation for quality while meeting growing demand, the company sought a more efficient way to manufacture its extensive range of trim products.

From manual cutting to digital automation

Historically, Britpart's trimshop relied on hand-cutting methods using cardboard templates and manual cutting tools. While effective, the process was labour-intensive and limited productivity.

After evaluating several digital cutting solutions, Britpart selected a DYSS X5 digital cutter supplied by AG/CAD. The machine delivered the speed, precision, and robustness required to process a wide range of materials, including vinyl, leatherette, fabrics, carpet, and sound-deadening materials.

Combined with KASEMAKE CAD software, the DYSS X5 enabled Britpart to digitise existing templates, optimise material usage through intelligent nesting, and significantly reduce waste.

Greater efficiency, less waste

The introduction of digital cutting transformed production within the trimshop. Complex multi-part kits could be nested efficiently, maximising material yield while improving consistency and accuracy.

The conveyorised cutting system also allowed operators to remove finished parts safely while the machine continued running, helping to increase throughput and reduce downtime.

Expanding into new markets

As demand grew for bespoke carpet sets, Britpart invested in a second machine - a DYSS X7-2230C with a 2.2m cutting width. The larger platform provided the capacity needed to process heavy-duty carpet materials while maintaining the tight tolerances required for premium vehicle fitment.

The DYSS X7's powerful vacuum system and versatile tooling allow Britpart to process materials from either side, supporting both production and prototyping requirements. The machine is also used to produce packaging prototypes, adding further flexibility to the operation.

A reliable platform for growth

Today, both DYSS digital cutters play a key role in Britpart's manufacturing operation, helping the company increase productivity, reduce material waste, and expand its product offering.

As trimshop Manager Matt Morgan explains

"The service, support, KASEMAKE software and DYSS digital cutting technology supplied by AG/CAD have enabled Britpart to grow into new markets and expand the product range offered to our customers. The two DYSS machines have proved reliable, flexible and robust."

For manufacturers looking to improve efficiency, increase accuracy and create new opportunities for growth, DYSS digital cutting technology continues to deliver proven results. alt text
